Why Basketball?

When I was younger, my dad and, former basketball player, uncle always tried to get a basketball in my hands. I was sent to camps at a young age but never really found the love for basketball that they wanted me to because I was a dancer at the time. Once I switched to my current school in 8th grade, Greens Farms Academy, I started to realize how much I enjoyed the sport. Although I played a little of it all throughout middle school, I never realized how much I wanted to pursue it. After quitting dance, I finally took on the sport and made it my goal to develop every aspect of my game.  In the spring of sophomore year, I wanted to push myself farther and join a new AAU team. My teammate from school who plays on GFA Varsity Basketball with me introduced me to Coach David Taylor who coaches DTX AAU basketball. From the moment I met him, I knew I was being put in the right hands and his support gave me hope. I attended the Doug Bruno camp in Illinois twice and did little camps over the summer where I was seen as a post player but once I joined DTX, I was seen for so much more than that. At DTX, I am constantly working on my handle, my shot, my ability to play defense, make good passes, and move all over the court. Although I will post up when needed because of my size, and I have some moves to use, I'm more of a wing player.

I was later to the game than most but I know and trust that my dedication and work ethic would come to good use in helping me get better. Now, I spend my free time working out or watching film of my games or college games. I make my own workout schedules and implement them throughout my day so I can get in strengthening, conditioning, and basketball. I also use every opportunity to get in the gym at DTX including practicing with some of the boys teams. I push myself to go whenever the gym is being used for our program even if it is out of my comfort zone and over the past 4-6 months I have pushed myself to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.  I hope to play in college one day and I know if I keep putting in the work, making sacrifices and giving my free time to basketball, I will make my dreams and goals a reality.
